Duty...

There are some things that are just awesome. We have the "Duty Hole" (think RHO) where we have to sit for 3 hours a night. Making perhaps 7 guestpasses, and avoiding the boss at all costs. It wouldn't be that big of a deal, except that tonight I missed an episode of Arrested Development which sucks. But one of my bosses definitely dropped by tonight and talked for the sake of talking to me ... Tale told by idiot...sound and fury ... signifying nothing. You get the idea. But the other thing that is incredibly annoying is everyone feels like they have to walk by and look at you, sorry, stare at you, and then hurriedly look away when you make eye contact with them back. I feel like a baboon, except that it would not be kosher for me to fling my feces at them ... yet. So next time you walk by instead of just letting your curiosity get the better of you as you walk by looking at me through your peripheral vision, wave, smile, say hi the person in the Duty Hole. It is the least you could do.

The Calm Before the Storm

Well, Ailey classes don't start until Tuesday, which is a nice reprieve from the regular schedule. It looks like I am going to be dancing for about 40 hours a week this year, with 20 class hours inculding my dance academics, I have to admit that I am going ot miss not having a Poli Sci class to have some contact with the real university. It can be a pain in the ass to only see dancers all the time, not that I don't love them, but they do have a tendency to just talk shop and complain about Ailey, which can get old. Any of you that hang out with dancers regularly know that when in packs that tends to be what we talk about. This year I am going to really try to get to know the dancers outside of the classes that we take together, I think that there is a bit of a defense mechanism that we put up when together, we talk about dance because there is a bit of a fear about the real us. Dancing can be so intimate that we have to keep that real us sealed away lest it get out. So that is my resolution for my final year, to get to know my fellow classmates outside of the tights & whites world.
